In most cases, yes — if the player never enters the game, the sportsbook voids the prop and refunds the stake. A parlay doesn’t die with it; the voided leg drops out and the ticket reprices with one fewer leg. The exceptions are sport-specific: golf, tennis and soccer all have their own rules, and DFS pick’em apps like PrizePicks aren’t sportsbooks at all, so their DNP policy works differently.

The Standard Rule at US Sportsbooks

Player props are contingent on the player playing. That’s the contract. Jokic is a late scratch at 6:58 and your over 24.5 points ticket is already in — at FanDuel, DraftKings, BetMGM, Caesars and the rest of the major US books, that bet voids. Money back on a straight bet. No win, no loss.

The trigger is participation, not starting. If the player takes the court for one possession, the bet is live. One snap, one shift, one at-bat — the book grades it. A guy who plays two minutes and rolls an ankle still counts, and yes, that one stings.

What Happens to a Parlay When One Leg Voids?

The leg comes off the ticket and the parlay recalculates. A four-leg parlay with a void becomes a three-leg at the shorter price. Same-game parlays work the same way at most books, though a few books have house rules that void the entire SGP if any leg voids — it’s in the fine print, and it’s worth a look before you build a six-legger around one star.

The Sport-by-Sport Exceptions

Golf. Tee off once and all bets are action — WD after one hole and your top-20 ticket is dead. No tee time, no action, full refund. Some books go further and void matchup bets only if neither player tees off.

Tennis. This is the one sport where books genuinely disagree. Some grade a match after one ball is played, some after one set, some after two. A player retiring mid-match can be a loss at one book and a void at another. If you bet tennis props seriously, you need to know which camp your book is in.

Soccer. Goalscorer props usually require the player to start or appear as a substitute. Named in the squad but never subbed on — void at most books. Not in the squad at all — always void.

Baseball. Batter props void if the player isn’t in the starting lineup at most books. Pitcher props void if the listed pitcher doesn’t start. Getting pinch-hit for after one plate appearance is a live bet.

DFS Pick’em Apps Play by Different Rules

PrizePicks, Underdog and Sleeper aren’t sportsbooks — they’re pick’em contests, and a DNP there follows house rules, not sportsbook convention. PrizePicks runs a “reboot” policy: if a player doesn’t play, the entry drops to a smaller payout tier instead of voiding for a refund. A five-pick entry with a reboot pays like a four-pick. Underdog voids and adjusts similarly. Nobody hands you cash back on a flex play.

What If the Book Doesn’t Void?

Read the house rules on the bet slip or the book’s help page — every licensed US book publishes them, and the DNP rule is always in there. If the rules say void and the bet graded as a loss, support will fix it with a screenshot of the slip. If the rules say one snap makes it action, that two-minute cameo is just a bad beat. You learn the rule and you bet accordingly next time.

Frequently Asked Questions

If a player gets injured during the game, is the bet void?

No. Once the player participates — one snap, one shift, one at-bat — the bet is live and graded on the final stat line. Void only applies when the player never appears at all.

Does a voided parlay leg cancel the whole ticket?

Not at most books. The voided leg drops off and the parlay reprices with the remaining legs. A small number of books void the entire same-game parlay when one leg voids — check the house rules before stacking legs.

Is a bet void if the game is postponed?

Usually, if the game isn’t completed within the book’s window — typically 24 to 48 hours for most sports, same day for baseball doubleheaders. Bets carry over if the game finishes inside the window.

What does PrizePicks do when a player doesn’t play?

PrizePicks applies a reboot: the entry isn’t refunded, it drops to a lower payout tier. A five-pick flex entry with one rebooted player scores and pays as a four-pick entry.

Do golf bets void if a player withdraws?

Only if the player never tees off. One shot hit and every bet is action, including withdraws mid-round. No tee time means a full refund at every major book.
