Quick Answer
Heisman odds are a season-long futures market on who wins the Heisman Trophy. The posted number is probability plus the book’s margin — de-vig the board to find fair prices. PropsBot does not post its own Heisman market; this page tracks how the odds work and move in 2026.
What Heisman Odds Measure
Heisman odds measure the market’s expectation of an award vote, not simply who the best player is. The Heisman is voted on by media members, former winners, and a fan ballot — which means production, team record, national TV exposure, narrative, and timing all feed the price. A quarterback putting up huge numbers on a 7-5 team is usually a longer price than a slightly less productive quarterback on a playoff lock, because voters reward the story as much as the stat line.
That distinction matters for betting. The most talented player in the country can be a terrible Heisman bet at the wrong number, and a flawed candidate can be a good one at the right number. The price is the bet — the player is just the argument behind it.
How The Heisman Market Moves Through The Season
Books post and move Heisman odds all season, and the board goes through roughly four phases. Understanding the phases tells you where value usually appears and where it disappears.
| Phase | Window (2026) | What Moves Prices |
|---|---|---|
| Preseason | Now through mid-August | Returning starters, recruiting hype, media-day narratives, schedule strength. Prices are at their softest and the field is at its widest. |
| Early season | Week 0 (Aug 22) through September | First real box scores against real opponents. One signature non-conference win can cut a price in half; a bad opener can end a campaign by Week 2. |
| Conference grind | October through November | Head-to-head contender games, injuries, and elimination losses. The board typically narrows to three to five realistic names. |
| Heisman moment season | Rivalry week through the ceremony | Championship-week showcases and late voter momentum. Short prices get shorter; longshots die or cash. |
The pattern that repeats most years: the preseason favorite rarely wins wire to wire, and at least one player who was 40/1 or longer in August ends up a finalist. Futures value is usually about when you bet, not just who.
How To De-Vig Heisman Futures Into Fair Prices
Every futures board is overround. Convert each player’s odds to implied probability (for American odds of +800, that is 100 ÷ (800 + 100) = 11.1%; for -150, it is 150 ÷ (150 + 100) = 60%), then add up the whole board. On a Heisman market the total routinely lands well above 100% — the excess is the book’s margin, and it is bigger on futures than on single-game lines because the book carries risk for months.
The de-vig is simple normalization: divide each player’s implied probability by the board total, then convert back to odds. An illustrative example: if a book’s Heisman board sums to 125% implied and a quarterback is priced at 10% implied (+900), his de-vigged fair probability is 10% ÷ 125% = 8%, which is a fair price of +1150. If you can only find +700 on him anywhere, the market is charging you more than the consensus fair value — that is a pass, even if he is your pick to win. If another book hangs +1300, the edge is real.
This is the same methodology PropsBot applies to its live NCAAF markets: build a market-anchored consensus, de-vig it into fair prices, then grade the offered number with a Confidence Score. A pass is always an acceptable result — on futures it should be the most common result, because futures vig is the steepest tax in sports betting. If you want the single-game version of this math, our college football player props page walks through it, and our college football computer picks show the fair-price grading in action.
The Quarterback Problem
The Heisman is functionally a quarterback award. Quarterbacks have won the overwhelming majority of trophies in the modern era — since 2000, non-quarterbacks have won only a handful of times, and most of those required historic, position-redefining seasons. That history is already priced in: preseason boards are stacked with quarterbacks at the top, and skill players open at longer prices than their talent would justify in a truly open vote.
The betting implication cuts both ways. Quarterback prices are efficient and heavily bet, so edge there comes mostly from timing. Non-quarterback prices carry extra margin for error — a wide receiver or running back needs a monster season and quarterback chaos to cash, but when the QB favorites keep cannibalizing each other with losses, that path can be worth more than the number suggests. If you play the skill-position angle, the weekly markets are where the edge shows up first — our anytime touchdown scorer props page and the glossary entries on anytime touchdown scorer and rushing yards cover how those markets price volume.
The 2026 Preseason Field
Based on publicly reported preseason boards, the 2026 market opened the way it usually does: quarterback-heavy at the top. Texas quarterback Arch Manning has been the consensus preseason favorite — BetMGM listed him at +750 in late July 2026, with Notre Dame’s CJ Carr among the next tier of names on early boards. National preview rankings have also highlighted Ohio State quarterback Julian Sayin (a 2025 Heisman finalist who returned for 2026), Oregon’s Dante Moore, and Georgia’s Gunner Stockton as top-tier contenders. These are reported market numbers from sportsbooks and national outlets as of late July 2026, not PropsBot projections — they will move, and they will move fast once games start.
The watch items that historically reshape a Heisman board:
- Returning finalists. A player who already has voter familiarity (Sayin is the 2026 case) starts with a narrative head start that box scores alone can’t buy.
- First-year starters at blue bloods. Preseason hype prices in potential; September decides whether the price was a subsidy or a warning.
- Schedule showcases. Contenders with two or three nationally televised marquee games get more chances at a “Heisman moment” than equally good players buried on regional broadcasts.
- The 40/1-and-longer tier. Most seasons, the finalist pool includes someone the preseason board barely priced. That is where futures value lives — and where most futures tickets die. Bet accordingly.

Heisman Odds And Player Props
Here is the tie-in most Heisman coverage misses: the Heisman race is also a weekly betting signal. Contenders drive prop volume. When a quarterback’s Heisman price shortens, books see more action on his passing yards, touchdown, and receptions-adjacent markets — and public money on a narrative favorite can push prop lines a half-step too far. A Heisman campaign built on a soft September schedule is often a better prop fade than a futures bet.
That is where PropsBot actually plays. Once the season starts, we price NCAAF player props today against a de-vigged consensus across 13 player markets, backed by 78,465 clean 2025 gamelogs covering roughly 29,600 players including FCS. You will find our weekly card there and on the NCAAF Week 1 picks page once the full slate hits on August 29.
Comparing Heisman Prices Across Books
Futures markets have wider disagreement between sportsbooks than game lines, and Heisman is the widest of all. The same player can be +700 at one book and +1000 at another in the same week. Over a season-long ticket, that gap is enormous: shop every futures bet, and track where the consensus actually sits before deciding a number is “value.” Market movement on contender games also shows up in the betting splits — our CFB betting splits page tracks how public and sharper money distribute on the week’s biggest games, which often front-runs a Heisman price move.
When To Bet — And When To Pass
The honest calendar: preseason prices are softest but carry the most unknowns; the post-Week-1 overreaction window is usually the best risk-adjusted entry; and by rivalry week the board is efficient enough that you are mostly paying retail. In every window, the discipline is the same one PropsBot applies everywhere — de-vig the board, know the fair price, and if no book is offering better than fair, pass. A pass is a result. Most Heisman tickets should end as passes, because most Heisman prices are not worth the vig.
Heisman Odds FAQ
What are Heisman odds?
Heisman odds are a futures market on who wins the Heisman Trophy. Sportsbooks post them preseason and adjust them all year based on performance, injuries, team success, and betting action. The posted number includes the book’s margin, so it is not a clean probability.
Who is favored to win the 2026 Heisman?
As of late July 2026, publicly reported boards had Texas quarterback Arch Manning as the consensus favorite (for example, +750 at BetMGM), with Ohio State’s Julian Sayin, Oregon’s Dante Moore, Georgia’s Gunner Stockton, and Notre Dame’s CJ Carr among the widely listed top contenders. These are sportsbook numbers that change constantly — always check the current board before betting.
How do I convert Heisman odds into real probability?
Convert each player’s odds to implied probability, add up the entire board, then divide each player’s implied probability by that total. The result is the de-vigged fair probability. If the best available price implies a lower probability than the fair number, the bet has theoretical edge; if not, pass.
When is the best time to bet Heisman futures?
Historically, value clusters in two windows: the preseason, when the field is widest, and the early-season overreaction window after Weeks 1–2, when one game moves prices more than one game should. By November the board is usually efficient and the vig is hardest to beat.
Are Heisman odds the same as player props?
No. Heisman odds are a season-long award market; player props are single-game markets on stats like passing yards or touchdowns. They interact — Heisman contenders attract prop volume that can inflate weekly lines — but they price differently and carry very different vig. PropsBot covers the prop side with de-vigged fair prices on 13 NCAAF player markets.
Does PropsBot offer Heisman picks?
Not currently. PropsBot’s NCAAF coverage is game lines and player props, priced from a market-anchored, de-vigged consensus with a Confidence Score on every grade. This page tracks and explains the Heisman market; our live picks are on the app and the picks hub.
